Ferdinand Gustav Marks 1 3
Another name for Ferdinand was Fernie Marks. General Notes: Ferdinand was a Licensed Victualler and owned the famous Gem Hotel at Alberton. It is still trading at the present time. Ferdinand was on the electoral roll as a farmer at Pimpama Island in 1903 and 1913, and from 1914 to 1921 he was a publican at the Gem Hotel, but on the 1922 roll he is recorded as a licensed victualler. From 20.9.1933 to 14.1.1937 he was the licensee of the Gem Hotel. In 1933 the hotel was burnt down. It was rebuilt in the same style so that it has always looked the same. They lived in a house near the hotel. On the 1959 electoral roll, Olga is shown living at Wharf Street, Beenleigh. Hazel Kleinschmidt said Ferdinand (known by the family as Ferni) thought that living in the hotel environment was unsuitable for his young, growing family. 8 Birth Notes: Registration 1877 number 003112 (page 9221) Death Notes: Regustration 1947 Number B010978 (Page 1394) Ferdinand married Olga Ingeborg Margareth Jørgensen, daughter of Søren Jørgensen and Kathrine Benediktine Marie Høyer, on Oct 31, 1908 in Queensland, Australia.1 2 (Olga Ingeborg Margareth Jørgensen was born in 1885 in Copenhagen, København, Denmark 1, baptised on Aug 11, 1885 in Copenhagen, København, Denmark and died on May 10, 1963 in Steiglitz Wharf, Queensland, Australia 1 9.) |
