bullet  General Notes:

Albert Joseph Thompson joined the call to arms for WW1 enlisting in the Australian Infintry Force (AIF) at the Blackboy Hill Camp W.A. on Nov 30, 1915 with the rank of Private. His service number was 4915 and his unit the 16th Battalion 15th Reinforcement embarking from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard the HMAT A38 Ulysses on April 1, 1916 bound for Europe.

On June 14, 1916 the troops transferred to the HT Ionian in Alexandria and sailed to Marseilles, France from where they travelled overland to Etaples on the north coast of France to join the rest of the 16th Battalion on Aug 17, 1916.

On Oct 4, 1916 Albert suffered gunshot wounds to his right leg and left shoulder. Following attention in the field hospital he was evacuated to 3rd Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, England via Boulonge. He spent the next year recouperating at various Army postings in England.

On Oct 1, 1917 he rejoined the 6th Battalion in Le Havre, Belgium. On Oct 24, 1917 he was wounded again with gunshot to his hand. Albert was sent to the 2nd Military Hospital in Canterbury for treatment.

He remained in England until the end of the war again serving in various posts. Albert returned to Australia aboard HT Trás-os-Montes arriving in Fremantle on May 14, 1919 where he was demobilised.

Albert's occupation was noted as Grocer on his Enlistment to the AIF.
