Robert was born at Berkhampstead, where he was baptised on 13th July 1725, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Stratfold. The first three of their seven children were given the surname of Stratfold, while the later ones had the name of Collet added as a forename. This became the expected standard for a while, but later the name Collet Stratfold was reversed to Stratfold Collett, as used by the more recent generations of the family. 1 Elizabeth married Robert Stratfold, son of Richard Stratfold and Hannah Kipping, on Jun 14, 1744 in Potsgrove, Bedfordshire, England.1 (Robert Stratfold was born in 1710 in Bierton, Buckinghamshire, England, baptised on Jan 7, 1711 in Bierton, Buckinghamshire, England,4 died on Jun 30, 1774 in Potsgrove, Bedfordshire, England 5 and was buried in Jul 1774 in Potsgrove, Bedfordshire, England.)
